Inside RotationOffense for use against zone and person to person defenses

We use this whenwe have three interchangeable big players. Ideally each canshoot, pass, and drive from a high post position as well as playin the low post. This offense requires the defenders to playagainst multiple screens, some of them double screens, and tomake choices between preventing passes to the post andmaintaining rebound positioning. Because of the activity insidethe key, the players must count the seconds and be sure to exitthe key prior to the tree second time limit. When we ran thisoffense we found the few three second violations which did occurwere outweighed by the many rebounding and scoring opportunities.

Ir1 We set up witha traditional triangle with people in the ball side 4 and offside 3 low posts and a person in the ball side high post 5.Perimeter players can feed either the high or low post at anytime.

Ir2 When the ballis in the low wing position we bring the high post 5 to aposition beside the low post 4 player. If the defense is in azone, the player 2 guarding the 5 player may accidentally leavethe 5 player during this cut which would cause a single defensiveplayer 5 to attempt to guard two of our players 4 & 5 in theball side low post.

Ir3 If noopportunity to pass to the low post arises, the two low postplayers, begin to back, or if necessary roll, into the key. Ifthe strong side low post defender does not go with the 4 and 5players, then one may quickly move to a position blocking out thestrong side low post player while the other blocks out the weakside low post player and our low post player 3 blocks out thehigh post defender 2. Perimeter players seeing this should shooteven a poor shot. If the shot does not go in, we have at leasttwo 4 & 5 and possibly three 4 & 5 & 3 rebounderswith inside rebounding position which in many instances, due toour superior rebounding positioning, have the effect of turning apoor shot into a pass to one of our rebounders.

Ir4 If none ofthis occurs, the players 4 & 5 set a double screen with theirbacksides (so they can see the ball to receive possible passes)and the 3 player cuts to the strong side using this doublescreen.

Ir5 The screenerclosest to the baseline uses the other screener for a screen andcuts toward the free throw line. During this cut the cutter mayfind an opportunity to acquire a position between the foul linedefender and the basket. A pass to this player may be possible orelse this player has inside rebounding position.
